The Memory Button

A way to remember

The Memory Button, at rest

The moment, in your words

Life moves fast and the little moments can pass us by. The Memory Button is a way to remember them. Something funny your child just said. A fleeting thought. A surprising encounter. A photo can’t capture those moments. But your voice can.

How it works

1

Press the button

There’s no dashboard or sign-in screen. Record straightaway.

Say what’s happened

Just be you.

“She asked me to teach her a song to give her magic powers.”
“Put Dad’s old winter coat on. Found one of his pens in the pocket.”
“Bumped into Mrs. Norris at the station. She hasn’t changed a bit since school. Still has that twinkle.”

It’s saved, automatically

Your recording is saved in a Memory Box. You can listen back whenever you want to. Or wait…

We’ll remind you, just once

Set a one-time reminder and years from now, a single notification brings you right back to remember it all. If you’ve left recordings about your kids, listen to them together when they’re adults!

The one-time reminder notification

Everything lives in a Memory Box

The very first time you open the app, you’ll be asked to create a Memory Box. That’s where your recordings are saved. Create as many as you like, and choose which one you’re saving to straight from the button.

Memory Button PlusIdeas for Plus

What would you want from Plus?

Around £12 / year

  • A safe copy

Everything safely backed up, so you can restore it on any phone.

  • Sharing: Listen

Family and friends can listen to a Memory Box.

  • Sharing: Add

Family and friends can add their own recordings to the same box.

  • Journalling

A gentle daily nudge to record your reflections on the day, just 30 seconds or so.

To tell us what you think, tap the small gold diamond under the button or choose Plus in the menu. Or email hello@thememorybutton.app.

No addiction, no algorithm

The Memory Button isn’t designed for engagement. It won’t get in your way. It’s there to make it quick and easy to record moments you want to remember. It’s like a diary, but for your voice. Speak for a few seconds, it saves automatically, then get back to your life and the real world.

You just get one notification.

And the memories.

Questions you may have…

Where are my recordings actually stored?

On your phone, not in the cloud. Nobody else can hear them, and nothing is uploaded unless you choose to share it or save a copy yourself.

What if I lose my phone, or get a new one?

Any recording, or all the recordings in a Memory Box at once, can be saved as a copy straight from the app (look for Save a Copy) — to Files, email, AirDrop, a cloud drive, wherever you trust. We’re also looking at automatic backup as a future option, for anyone who’d rather not think about it at all.

Can I share a Memory Box with someone else?

Not yet. The Memory Button is built around your own voice, kept private to you. We’re exploring two ways to share, both as part of Plus: letting family and friends listen to a Memory Box, and letting them add their own recordings to the same box.

What happens if I delete something by mistake?

Deleting a Memory Box is permanent, so you’re always asked to confirm first. You can save a copy of your Memory Box before anything is removed.

What might Memory Button Plus include?

Plus is still an idea, and we’d like to hear what you’d want from it. We’re thinking about a safe copy of everything that restores on any phone, sharing a Memory Box with family, and a gentle daily diary reminder. It would be around £12 a year, and recording, saving, Memory Boxes and reminders stay free either way. To tell us what you think, tap the small gold diamond below the button or choose Plus in the menu.
