The Memory Button

Privacy

Last updated 20 October 2026

The Memory Button does not collect your information. Your recordings stay on your phone, and the app has no account, no server and no tracking.

What stays on your phone

Your voice recordings, the names and colours of your Memory Boxes, your reminder dates and your settings are all stored on your phone, in the app’s own storage. I don’t receive them, and I can’t see or listen to them.

What the app does not do

Permissions the app asks for

When you share a recording

“Save a Copy” hands a recording, or a whole Memory Box, to your phone’s share sheet, so you can put it in Files, email it or AirDrop it. That only happens when you choose it. Once a copy has gone to another app or service, it is covered by that service’s own privacy policy, not this one.

Locking a Memory Box

Locking a Memory Box stops new recordings being added to it. It does not hide or encrypt what is inside, and the app has no password. Anyone who can unlock your phone and open the app can listen to your recordings.

Backups, and deleting the app

Your phone’s own backup, for example iCloud Backup, may include the app’s data depending on your Apple settings. That is controlled by you and Apple, not by this app. If you delete the app, your recordings are deleted with it, and I cannot get them back.

Testing through TestFlight

Early versions are shared through Apple’s TestFlight. Apple collects some information for TestFlight, such as crash reports and any feedback you choose to send with “Share Beta Feedback”, under Apple’s own privacy policy. Feedback you send that way may reach me.

If you write to me

If you email hello@thememorybutton.app, or use “Let Me Know” in the app, which opens a draft in your own Mail app, I will receive what you send, including your email address. I use it only to reply and to improve the app, and I keep it only as long as that needs. If you would like me to delete it, write to me and I will.

Children

The Memory Button is made for adults, such as parents recording their own memories. It is not aimed at children, and the app collects nothing from anyone.

Changes to this page

If the app changes in a way that affects your privacy, for example a future version that stores recordings off your phone, I will update this page first and say so in the app.
